whatz up

Here is a photo list of what's been happening in our lives...

the pLaY
both the girls are in the play of the Best Christmas Pageant Ever
with 18 performances and separate cast call times, it's confirmed, I am truly nuts

and even though you might find Adelle looking bored and picking her nose on stage they both seem to love it

the girls with their thespian buddy Ava
also we've been...
drinking loads of hot chocolate (it's been so cold lately)

swimming

loosing multiple teeth
receiving annoying letters from the tooth fairy who is conveniently on our side of the I-want-my-own-room debate
welcoming long awaited grandma visits

rockin' out at Tess's piano concert... she was pretty totally awesome
and yes I have ridiculous over-scheduling issues

a day home from schoolio

Parent teacher conferences gave us a much needed day of chillin' out.

French toast with whipped cream and syrup, hot chocolate with chocolate to dip in the hot chocolate, pajamas, books and getting cozy all day!

what have I done

I start teaching dance to Tess and Adelle's classes at their school today. I'm a little nervous to teach 24 1st-3rd graders. I just have to keep reminding myself how good I am at making a fool of myself, then I feel much more calm about everything. Adelle's class will be all 5 year olds and there should only be about 12 of them. Phheeewww! Here are some pics from this summers dance class taken by the fabulous Granda.

small

The online magazine Small has long been a source of creative inspiration for me. A few months ago my friend Candace introduced me to another cool Dallasite, Christine. While we were all getting to know each other, Candance casually mentioned that Christine was the creator and co-editor of Small. I tried to act cool, like I meet creative superstars everyday, but the nervousness made my tongue and brain swell so I ended up mumbling inept attempts at flattery until Christine had to politely excuse herself from the incoherent conversation. Anyway, I love Small and I am so excited about this gem of an article.

And this fun little nugget on page 82.

my daily dose of drama

Tess's dream...

an upstairs and her own room.

The hate mail I receive when she is casually denied her dreams.

if I could do it again...

oh so beachy

If you step out my door and drive a short 4.5 hours in a south east-ish direction you might run into a little "village" called Surfside. Don't tell anyone about it--a small, unhurried, and relaxing beachy marvel. We got our summer ON in this simple place. I want to run away there at least 15 times a year and make multiple week-long stays in the summer.

we stayed in A-frame #4

with these fun people

Margret, Candace, Johnathon (and Lydia not pictured...yet)

we brought home 853 of these

discussed Nietzche and U2 in the sunset

practiced the ancient art of sand texting

exfoliated my Skousen legs...similar to females in Lake Wobegon, Skousen women are strong and their legs come in a nice uni-sex, one-size-fits-all-man size

used the ocean breeze to fly a kite (this is Lydia)

competed in inter tube kite flying

braved the waves

hunted for crabs

and found one

rehearsed a watery death (Tess and Lydia, inspired by Anne of Green Gables/Tennyson)

snoozed with Harry Potter

and did all thing summer in just three fabulous days

you are the daughter of the sea

you are the daughter of the sea, oregano's first cousin. Swimmer, your body is pure as the water; cook, your blood is quick as the soil. Everything you do is full of flowers, rich with the earth. Your eyes go out toward the water, and the waves rise; your hands go out to the earth and the seeds swell; you know the deep essence of water and the earth, conjoined in you like a formula for clay.
--Pablo Neruda
